Sextortion is a serious crime that occurs when someone threatens to distribute your private and sensitive material if you don’t provide them images.

Sextortion also refers to a form of blackmail in which sexual information or images are used to extort sexual favors from the victim. Social media and text messages are often the source of the sexual material and the threatened means of sharing it with others.

DETAILS:  A highly effective new email scam that mirrors previous sextortion

emails.  The email uses an old password/PIN dump to convince the victims

that their information has been compromised through various means.  The end-result

being a demand for payment for this financially-motivated sextortion campaign targeting web users.

WHAT TO DO: Recommendations to all users that receive a similar email, to:

  1. Do not click on any hyperlinks.
  2. Do not send money
  3. Delete email (delete email from trash as well)
  4. Change your password if it applies to any accounts
  5. If there is evidence of PIN compromise, contact the organization that is be compromised for help.
